SHANGHAI, A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

China Daily | Updated: 2018-10-05 07:57

Ghanaian soccer coach lives in the coastal city with his family, hoping to inspire the aspiring young players he teaches

Having lived in Shanghai for 10 years, Isaac Asare from Ghana considers the city his home away from home.

He is a soccer coach at a local training organization for aspiring young players.

Speaking fluent Chinese helps him to become friends with his students.

He said he hopes that he is not only a coach to them, but also a tutor that can help them learn life lessons from playing the sport.

"Many children in my class are forced to attend by their parents. My goal is to stimulate their interest and make them fall in love with the sport," Asare said.

He first came to Shanghai in 2008 to study for his master's degree at Donghua University. Later, he also gained a doctoral degree in business management.

Asare met his wife at school and now their daughter is nearly 2 years old.

"As long as I work hard, my family will have a better life in Shanghai," he said.
