Mine removal begins in DMZ

The Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will remove land mines in border areas as part of an effort to implement the inter-Korean military agreement, local media reported, citing the ROK Defense Ministry. The militaries of the two neighbors started removing mines in the Joint Security Area inside the Demilitarized Zone that has divided the peninsula since the 1950-53 Korean War halted with an armistice. The removal work is planned for 20 days.
