Voting begins in presidential poll

Voting for the Maldives presidential election began early on Sunday, with thousands of people queued up outside voting centers across the country, the Elections Commission said. According to official statistics, 262,135 people are set to cast their votes at 472 ballot boxes. Preliminary results were expected to come out by early Monday and the final results are expected to be announced on Sept 30, local media reports said.
