Sri Lanka aid comes without conditions
There are never any political strings attached to China's assistance to Sri Lanka, and China never seeks any political interest through its financing for or investment in Sri Lanka, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Beijing on Thursday.
Geng Shuang made the remarks at a regular news conference after CNBC reported that Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Tuesday he didn't believe Sri Lanka was falling into a debt trap due to Chinese loans.
"There are a fair amount of Chinese investments. There are China loans. I can't see it as a threat," the prime minister was quoted as saying.
