Reading initiative enriches education
The China Youth Development Foundation and Chlitina, a beauty product and salon brand, launched a reading promotion program at a rural primary school in East China's Jiangxi province in August. The program comprised book donations, one-week training for local reading teachers, and demonstration reading classes. The program is part of efforts by a foundation initiated by the CYDF and Chlitina, China's first foundation committed to cultivating rural children's reading habits. It regards reading as a way to develop healthy personalities and enrich lives for rural children, the majority of whom are left-behind children lacking education from parents. The foundation has launched reading classes at 11 primary schools in Jiangxi province so far and plans to build a reading education system for rural students within two years.
