Tariff row hurts US travel; weak lira benefits Turkey

By Zhu Wenqian | China Daily | Updated: 2018-09-03 08:04

The US tourism industry may suffer due to escalating trade tensions between the United States and China, industry experts said.

They are concerned that the Donald Trump-led US administration's measures like additional import tariffs on Chinese goods imposed since July may spark a chain reaction that could eventually see a sharp drop in the number of Chinese tourists visiting the US during the holiday season in October.

"There will be an impact on tourism for sure. The question is, how long would that impact last? We hope it'll be temporary," said Barry Lin, deputy general manager of destination marketing services at Chinese online travel agency Tuniu Corp.
