West aims to prolong Syria's war by stirring up weapons threats

China Daily | Updated: 2018-08-27 10:45

DAMASCUS - As the Syrian army will launch a widescale offensive against the last major rebel stronghold in Idlib province in the northwest, analysts say that the United States and its allies want to place hurdles.

The threats aim to put pressure on the Syrian forces as they seek reconciliation to resolve the situation with the help of Russia, which is already engaged in talks with Turkey to figure out a solution regarding Idlib.

The Western powers, who have been so vehement in their opposition to the administration of President Bashar al-Assad, have frequently talked about the need for a power transition in Syria.
