Editor's note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.In August, 1990, the country's first standard expressway linking Shenyang with Dalian in Liaoning province, finished construction, as seen in an item from China Daily.

The 350-kilometer expressway opened that September. From 2002 to 2004, the highway was rebuilt from four lanes to eight.

It is now part of the expressway linking Shenyang to Haikou, Hainan province.
