Falling sign kills 3; probe undertaken

The Shanghai city government said on Monday that it will launch an inspection on the potential risk of falling objects after a sign fell off a shop on East Nanjing Road, killing three people and injuring six on Sunday night. A thorough inspection and renovation of various building attachments, including billboards, external air conditioner units, lightboxes, glass curtain walls and high-rise decorations will be conducted, according to a notice issued on Monday. Shanghai's work safety watchdog said on Monday that it has launched an investigation into the accident.
