Plenty of pluses for African event

The International Table Tennis Federation has upgraded the annual Nigeria Open to a "Challenge Plus" event.

The promotion means the tournament will feature more prize money and world-ranking points, as well as better playing conditions and TV production.

This year's edition of the Nigeria Open is currently in progress in Lagos, and the ITTF said the event has been rewarded for its exceptionally strong showing in the Challenge Series over the past few years.
