E-commerce sites boost farmers' sales

By Cheng Yu and Zhang Xuanming | China Daily | Updated: 2018-08-09 07:33

The China Electronic Commerce Association, a non-profit organization guided by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, has launched a poverty alleviation initiative harnessing the power of e-commerce and social networking platforms.

Called Warm China, the initiative will help farmers in poverty-stricken areas by promoting their agricultural products on popular e-commerce and social networking platforms, such as short-video app Douyin.

"Unlike traditional e-commerce platforms, apps like Douyin combine e-commerce with social networking. People can sell products thanks to more vivid marketing methods, including short videos and livestreaming," said Yao Guanghui, deputy head of the CECA.
