Online learning bridging the education imbalance

By Fan Feifei | China Daily | Updated: 2018-08-09 07:33

Online education company Hujiang EdTech is offering primary and middle school students lessons free of charge to improve education levels in remote and impoverished areas across the country.

Students from Makit county in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region are participating in free Putonghua (or standard Chinese) lessons at schools, where projector screens allow them to see lectures given by teachers from other provinces in real time via an online teaching platform.

The lessons are conducted by experienced teachers from elite schools from first and second-tier cities such as Beijing, Nanjing in Jiangsu province and Wuhan in Hubei province. This teaching model is being used to alleviate the shortage of teachers in poverty-stricken areas, giving students with limited access to education resources more confidence, according to Hujiang.
