First panda twins born to parents who are wildly different

China Daily | Updated: 2018-07-31 07:05

Male-female twins were born to a pair of panda parents - one raised in captivity and one wild - in Sichuan province on Wednesday afternoon, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda announced on Sunday.

Cao Cao, 16, gave birth to the twins at the Hetaoping panda base in Wolong. The male cub weighed 215 grams and his younger sister weighed 84 grams, said Wu Daifu, director of the base.

The mother was released into the wild in February ahead of the mating season this year and started to show signs of pregnancy in late June.
