Photos: Painter gives old murals new life

Yao Shulong was taken by his father to the Pilu Temple in Hebei province at age 6 and ever since has had a special connection with the temple's murals. In 2006, he began drawing replicas of the murals on paper. After 10 years of practice - which included line drawing, coloring and powdering - he has completed life-size replicas of the murals on paper with an area more than 200 square meters. Through exhibitions and lecture tours at colleges over the past two years, Yao has taught the public about the traditional art.
