Former governor sentenced to 16 years

Su Shulin, ex-governor of Fujian province, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for bribery and abuse of power on Thursday, according to a court in Shanghai.

Su was fined 3 million yuan ($442,000), and money he accepted in bribes was turned over to the State treasury, the judgment of Shanghai No 2 Intermediate People's Court said.

It said Su made use of his positions, including head of Daqing Oil Field Co in Heilongjiang province, head of China Petrochemical Corp (SINOPEC) and governor of Fujian to receive payoffs of 36 million yuan to help individuals and departments get promotions and line up business operations between 1997 and 2013.
