Editor's note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.
The photo from July 22, 1985, in China Daily shows a roller coaster at Miyun International Amusement Park, which, at 40 hectares, was China's largest amusement park at the time. It opened to public the following month.
In recent years, China has witnessed a theme-park boom, as people seek entertainment options. Of the 20 most popular theme parks cited in surveys of Asian tourists, 13 are in China, according to the Themed Entertainment Association, an international nonprofit organization. There are currently more than 2,500 across the country.
