United States
President intends to run again in 2020
US President Donald Trump said he intends to run for re-election in 2020 because "everybody wants me to" and there are no Democratic candidates who could defeat him, the Mail on Sunday newspaper reported. During Trump's visit to the UK, he met with Queen Elizabeth and had a conversation about the complexities of Brexit, saying "it's a very complex problem". Speaking of the 92-year-old queen, Trump was quoted as saying: "She is an incredible woman, she is so sharp, she is so beautiful."
Russia
Putin, Abbas hold talks in Moscow
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday hosted his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas and the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East, the Kremlin said. Putin noted the situation in the Middle East is complicated and said he would gladly inform Abbas of his contacts with leaders of other countries in the region. Abbas praised the constant development of bilateral cooperation of the two countries and said: "We oppose the attempts of the Americans to impose their resolution of the most pressing Palestinian problems."
Korean Peninsula
Neighbors to form table tennis teams
The Republic of Korea and Democratic People's Republic of Korea will form joint table tennis teams for the 2018 Korea Open next week, a report said on Sunday, the latest sign of thawing ties between two countries. The ROK and the DPRK will compete in the men's and women's doubles and the mixed doubles in the tournament to be held in the ROK city of Daejeon from Tuesday to Sunday, Yonhap news agency said.
Ethiopia
Former rivals keep up diplomatic thaw
Eritrea's longtime president arrived in Ethiopia for his first visit in 22 years on Saturday amid a diplomatic thaw between the once-bitter rivals. "This is a historic day for all of us," President Isaias Afwerki said. Thousands turned out in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, under tight security to welcome Isaias for a three-day visit. Ethiopia's new Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed broke the ice last month by fully embracing a peace deal that ended a 1998-2000 border war.
