National salt lake database created

China has created a database of salt lakes and related environmental sciences, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences on Tuesday. Creation of the database began in 2012. The CAS Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes said the database collects information on environmental conditions and resources and contains images and multimedia archives related to salt lakes across the country. The database has more than 570 gigabytes of data that include water bodies, weather, satellite images, the ecology and lake types. Data sharing will be supported, the institute said. It has basic information on almost 1,000 salt lakes nationwide.
