Fluent in English, driver helps foreigners

Xu Shijie is a tricycle taxi driver in Kaifeng, Henan province, who can introduce the city to foreign tourists in fluent selftaught English. To give foreign friends a deeper understanding of the city, he has taught himself the language since 1989. He has written six English diaries recording his experiences of communication and cultural exchange with foreign tourists. His English name, Jason, appears in the travel guide Lonely Planet.

Practical tips to cultivate confidence

According to TED-Ed, there are three useful ways to boost confidence. First, try a quick fix by striking a powerful pose, or giving yourself a pep talk before beginning a difficult task. Second, believe in your ability to improve. Neuroscience supports the notion that a growth mindset can make people more successful and do better in the face of a challenge. Third, practice failure. People who fail regularly may have learned how to try different strategies.

Body donated for medicine and research

After the death of 93-year-old Yu Xichun in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, his body was donated to the Red Cross Society China Shenzhen Branch. Yu was an expert in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, and he voluntarily signed a statement to donate his body after his death. He and his wife saved more than 400,000 yuan ($60,245) and paid for the training of five doctors, 10 masters and more than 20 college students. Check out more posts online.
