Culture: Vivid paintings give a taste of summer

In celebration of summer, the Palace Museum in Beijing is displaying a range of photos featuring ancient paintings of vegetables and fruits with netizens on its Sina Weibo account. The paintings, which depict seasonal fruits, are quite vivid.

Photos: Indigenous art from Australia on show

Using bark as canvas and ocher as pigment, indigenous Australians have formed their unique painting style over the centuries. The artwork usually centers around local people's prehistoric beliefs, recording history and legends of the tribes. From plants and animals to human portraits and abstract sketches of the ocean and local landscapes, the tree paintings cover a wide range of objects. The exhibition Old Masters: Australia's Great Bark Artists, which is underway at the National Museum of China, offers a peek into this unique painting style. On show are 122 bark paintings created by 46 artists in Arnhem Land, one of the birthplaces of Australian indigenous culture. The artworks were created between 1948 and 1985. The event will run through Sept 2.

Art: Expressing yourself through images

It is often said that photos are a window to the soul. They provide a creative way of expressing yourself that anyone, regardless of health or artistic ability, can achieve. Our website picked some images from female photographer Wang Yingying to decode her spiritual map of life. At the end of 2015, she asked 40 women from around China to share their stories of family life, career and future expectations.

Society: Jinan to solicit ideas for slogans, logos

The Jinan government in Shandong province is inviting ideas for city slogans and logos to better promote the city. The submitted words and designs should depict the city's special natural scenery and profound history, showcasing the "City of Spring" to the world, and must be sent before the Aug 31 deadline. Six submissions will be selected with up to 50,000 yuan ($7,535) given to each winner.
