Captain detained over ferry sinking
The captain of an overloaded Indonesian ferry that sank in Sumatra's Lake Toba has been detained by police for questioning over the deadly disaster, authorities said on Thursday. He was among just 18 people rescued after the vessel capsized and sank on Monday afternoon at the volcanic lake. Official estimates on Thursday morning listed 193 people - including children - as missing.

Aid workers 'used prostitutes': report
Aid workers for charity Medecins Sans Frontiers used prostitutes and bartered medicine for sex in Kenya, Liberia and central Africa, a BBC report said on Thursday. The NGO said it took the allegations seriously but said it had been unable to confirm the claims, made by anonymous whistleblowers.

A city official in Kobe has been reprimanded and fined for repeatedly leaving his desk during work hours - but only for around three minutes to buy lunch.
