Operation targets counterfeits
An ongoing special operation named Jianwang, initiated by multi-ministerial organizations, is targeted at online counterfeits and misleading advertising, especially in medical services, medicines, food and other sectors closely related to health and wealth. The campaign started in May and will last through November. The initiators included the State Administration for Market Regulation, the ministries of commerce and public security and the General Administration of Customs. Authorities said they will enhance enforcement and improve the online market environment.

New eco-friendly techs announced
The National Forestry and Grassland Administration introduced five eco-friendly technologies at a recent news conference on the industry's latest technological progress. Over the past three years, the administration said, it has stockpiled more than 7,700 advanced technologies. Of them, roughly 300 have been promoted nationwide. Also, some 400 new plant varieties were promoted for planting and more than 1 million technicians were trained. The administration will consider tech achievements in ecological restoration, industrial development and poverty relief as priorities in future promotions, its officials said.

Province preserves cultural heritage

The province in Southwest China has been racing against time to digitalize intangible cultural heritage that is on the verge of extinction. The move, which started in 2014, involves detailed recordings of words, pictures, audio and video of unique techniques, manufacturing processes and representative heritage works, as well as information about practitioners. More than 50,000 documents and 3,000 items had been uploaded to the database by the end of last year. Bordered by Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos, Yunnan boasts more than 52 ethnic minorities with diverse cultures.

VR, AI employed in fighting piracy
The 2018 Word Conference on VR Industry will be held in Nanchang, capital of the province, in October, showcasing the use of new technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence to explore copyright protection, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the provincial government said at a news conference in late May. Revolving around the theme "VR makes the world better", the event will include more than 10 forums, the 2018 China VR Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Annual VR/AR Innovation Awards and a series of annual research reports on VR/AR.

Show displays pottery crafts
The Qinzhou Nixing Pottery Art Festival, being held with a ceramics expo in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, includes more than 30 events related to traditional Nixing pottery, which has a history of over 1,300 years. The festival opened on Friday and will run until Wednesday in Qinzhou. The firing technique of Nixing pottery was put on the list of China's national intangible cultural heritage in 2008, and was listed as one of the first batch of traditional crafts to be revitalized this year.

Risk compensation fund created
An intellectual property-collateralized financing risk compensation fund was established in Shenzhen last week, with its initial scale amounting to 30 million yuan ($4.7 million). It is expected to leverage bank loans worth 300 million yuan. The fund can help companies to secure a single IP-collateralized loan up to 5 million yuan. Financial institutions across the city lent 4.2 billion yuan in combined IP-collateralized loans last year, ranking it at the forefront of the country, local officials said.
