GI marks promoted across country
The Chinese Trademark Association recently launched a geographical indications promotional event to solicit high-quality related products from across the country. They will be displayed at the 2018 China Trademark Festival, which is scheduled to be held in August. The GI event aims to use this special type of trademark to advance the growth of the rural economy and promote China-made agricultural products in the international market, said Ma Fu, president of the association.

Plant varieties solicited for expo
Organizers of the 2019 International Horticultural Exposition have begun soliciting new plant varieties from around the world for a special competition, with its awards ceremony slated to take place in early July. The selected candidates will be displayed at a themed exhibition area of the expo. Online voters, visitors and an expert panel will decide the award-wining displays. Awards include special contribution to proprietary intellectual property, the most popular plant with consumers, the most market potential and acute judgement in introducing new plant varieties.

Cultural week features folk art
An intangible cultural heritage promotional week centering on quyi folk art, which includes singing ballads, storytelling, crosstalk and clapper-talk, will be held from June 7 to 14. The organizers of the weeklong event said they have invited more than 80 representatives of national intangible cultural heritage items and 1,000 quyi performers and experts. During the event, 127 quyi forms ranked as national intangible cultural heritage will be showcased, according to the organizers.

TCM developed for new-type narcotics
A formula and preparation method for traditional Chinese medicine used for rehabilitation from new-type narcotics, developed by researchers from the province, was recently granted an invention patent and will possibly be put into production. The achievement is based on a medicine alleviating withdrawal symptoms of traditional narcotics, including opium and heroin. The new medicine's formula comprises more than 10 traditional Chinese medicine ingredients such as dried orange peel.

Students perform for local residents
Students from Yunnan Minzu University recently brought intangible cultural heritage performances, including folk songs of the Yi ethnic group, to residents of Old Street in the provincial capital Kunming. They also displayed traditional techniques such as tiedye and paper-cutting. The activity was aimed at attracting more people to learn about the charm of Chinese ethnic groups and inherit and protect the province's heritage.
