Cultural heritage to be promoted at CIFTIS
Twenty-eight intangible cultural heritage exhibition, performance and interaction events will take place at the fifth China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services, to be held from May 28 to June 1. The events will help to promote seven items on the list of UNESCO intangible cultural heritage and more than 60 national-and provincial-level intangible cultural heritage items. A themed forum at the fair will release an international report on Chinese intangible cultural heritage and also a database of Chinese traditional culture and arts basic resources.

National representative inheritors announced
The list for the fifth national-level intangible cultural heritage representative inheritors was announced recently by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with 1,082 people on it. The inheritors' average age is 63.29 and 107 of them are older than 80, while seven are younger than 40. Zhejiang province has the biggest group of inheritors on the list with 74. The ministry said it will, together with local cultural authorities, further support inheritors to teach techniques and promote innovative development of intangible cultural heritage.

Geographic indication office opens in Fengtai
The capital's first guidance office for geographical indication trademarks and brands was founded recently in Fengtai district. It will help to strengthen management and application of geographical indication and agricultural trademarks and brands, and promote development of sectors such as flowers and plants, fruits and cultural creativity. The office also plans to establish a geographical indication trademark expert committee to support farmers, agricultural companies and related cooperatives. It will launch monitoring and early warning for such trademarks to prevent trademark squatting and provide tailor-made measures against infringements.

Copyright promoted on school campuses
Provincial copyright authorities recently hosted a ceremony to launch events aimed at publicizing copyright on school campuses. Student representatives read an initial proposal at the ceremony to call on middle and primary school students to contribute to the publicity. The events are designed to help to increase children's awareness of innovation and copyright protection, and create an atmosphere of respect for creation and copyright, the authorities said. The province will also host copyright fairs and communication events and promote copyright in rural areas to improve protection, they said.

Time-honored brand expo to kick off in June
An intangible cultural heritage and time-honored brand expo will open on June 9 in Shapingba district. Under the theme of colorful intangible cultural heritage and beautiful life, the event is expected to display more than 200 heritage items and organize related sales exhibitions, performances and seminars on heritage protection and inheritance. Organizers of the event hope to highlight intangible cultural heritage's role in enriching people's lives and promoting inheritance of Chinese traditional culture.

Conference discusses integrated development
A high-level conference on the integrated development of intellectual property and new economy, hosted in Chengdu, attracted more than 200 guests on Friday. They discussed issues such as strengthening IP use and promoting new economy's industrial structure, patent finance and venture investment and also the training of IP professionals. At the event, an important part of the 2018 Chengdu Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair, representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organization and countries including the United States and South Korea also talked about how Chengdu can boost its opening-up and foreign cooperation.
