THE PHOTO THAT ALTERED MY FATHER'S DESTINY

By Cao Yin | China Daily | Updated: 2018-05-10 07:47

Yang Bo, 28, is the son of Yang Weihua, who took the "salute" photo of Lang Zheng as he was pulled from the rubble in wake of the Wenchuan quake.

My father was a photographer with Mianyang Evening News. The most famous picture he took was that of Lang Zheng saluting the soldiers as he was rescued in Beichuan county. The photo not only changed Lang's destiny, but also my father's.

My father had been far from me because my parents divorced when I was very young and I lived with my mother. When they first broke up, he drove me to school every weekend, but we both stayed silent during the 30-minute trip. We were "similar strangers".
