500,000 yuan lost chasing 10,000

A woman in Chaohu was defrauded of more than 500,000 yuan ($79,200) after she asked a hacker to help her retrieve 10,000 yuan lost in a previous online fraud. The woman, surnamed Wang, initially paid the hacker 3,000 yuan after he said he could help her get her money back. After Wang was taken in, the hacker, surnamed Yu, asked her to pay another 5,000 yuan, saying it would be refunded once the money she had lost was retrieved. Yu then asked for more money, and Wang sought police help after paying him more than 500,000 yuan in one month. Police detained Yu after an investigation.
