Successful raid nabs counterfeit phone kits

Industry and commerce enforcement officials in the city's Yuzhong district recently raided a store selling counterfeit Chinese brand mobile phone accessories. They seized 1,550 counterfeit Oppo and Vivo mobile power chargers and earphones. The store owner, surnamed Liu, was fined 30,000 yuan ($4,773).

Livestreamed case showcases protection

Livestreaming of a patent design infringement trial was provided on Tingshen.court.gov.cn, by the Tianjin High People's Court on April 12. Local officials, experts and representatives from scientific and tech companies, as well as patent agencies attended the hearing. In advance of the proceedings, the court distributed information on relevant case law and gave out printed details of the case to brief attendees. The court will further organize IP protection-focused publicity activities, including similar open hearings and news conferences in the near future. The aim is to showcase the fruits of IP juridical protection and create a social environment where innovation and intellectual property is respected.

Event attracts slew of patent projects

A match-making event attracted nearly 30 patented projects from 20 companies in Tianjin and 16 investment organizations on April 10. The patents were authorized over the last two years and most of them have gone into production. The event aimed to promote the commercialization and the upscale in production of the patent projects to boost the city's economy.

This year's China Import and Export Fair has invited leading enforcement officials from national and provincial IP offices, as well as experts in trade disputes arbitration and mediation, to work on site. The invitation was extended by the ongoing fair's organizing committee. Organizers said the officials are offering attendees consultations and advice about the fair's strengthened intellectual property protection and optimized infringement pre-warning mechanisms. The first phase of the fair runs April 15-19 in the province's capital, Guangzhou.

A national intellectual property training center was founded recently in Zhuhai. It focuses on IP operations professionals and IP creation, use, protection and management. The center is based on an online financial innovation platform related to IP operations services in the city, which involves transactions, social contacts, finance and big data.

New guidebook seeks to help companies

Haidian district procuratorate last week issued a guidebook on dealing with intellectual property infringement cases, to help advise companies on IP protection. The guidebook provides detailed analysis, based on the legal supervisory body's working practices, about problems of common concern such as evidence collection and examination. The procuratorate on the same day also released information about five classic IP infringement cases on copyright and business secrets.

Wuhan office gets greenlight from SIPO

An intellectual property protection center in the capital, Wuhan, was recently approved by the State Intellectual Property Office. Focusing on the optoelectronic information sector, it plans to provide quick channels for IP protection, rights recognition and examination. Local officials said the center would also help local companies to improve their ability to innovate and create a good environment for innovation.

Province rewards prominent contributions

A cash reward recognizing the province's most important and innovative patents is due to be given to 49 companies, including passenger car manufacturer Zhengzhou Yutong Group.
