Editor's Note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.

To improve the country's publishing sector in April 2002, the State Council, China's Cabinet, approved the creation of China Publishing Group.

The corporation was officially set up in 2003. It brought together 12 large enterprises and institutes, including the Commercial Press, Zhonghua Book Co, China International Publishing Trade Corp, China Book Import and Export Corp and the main Xinhua Bookstore,
