Nation to have 1st nuclear reactor
Leaders of Russia and Turkey were scheduled to launch the start of the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant as ties between the countries deepen. Russia's Vladimir Putin, on his first foreign visit since re-election on March 18, arrives in Ankara on Tuesday for talks with Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two would remotely launch the construction of the Russia-made Akkuyu nuclear plant on the Mediterranean coast.
Thailand
Police make large drug busts
Thailand has made one of its largest crystal methamphetamine busts, seizing 700 million baht ($22.4 million) worth of the drug, police said on Tuesday. Police said 700 kilograms of the drug, known as ice, was seized on March 28 in southern Chumpon province and were destined for Malaysia. The drugs were produced in the Golden Triangle region, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Two Thais and two Malaysians were arrested.

Airstrike kills 30 Taliban fighters
An Afghan official said an airstrike on a Taliban training camp in northern Afghanistan killed more than 30 insurgents and wounded many more on Monday, while the Taliban said the airstrike hit a religious school during a graduation ceremony, killing dozens of civilians. It was not immediately possible to reconcile the conflicting accounts.

Sloppy commute after snowstorm
A fast-moving spring snowstorm swept through parts of the Northeast region, spreading a wintry mix that made for a slow, slippery and slushy commute to start the workweek. The storm stretched from Ohio to coastal southern New England on Monday, and northern New Jersey took a hard hit with 10 to 20 centimeters of snow accumulation, leading to dozens of vehicle spinouts and crashes.
