Drowned man's family compensated

A river management department was recently ordered to pay compensation of 30,000 yuan ($4,740) to the family of an 80-year-old man, surnamed Wang, who died after falling into a river in Feidong county. Members of Wang's family asked for compensation after he fell into the water while walking along the riverbank in 2016. They said the defendants had failed to install barriers along the river and should bear responsibility for Wang's death. Hefei Intermediate People's Court ruled in the final appeal that the river management department bore part of the responsibility and ordered it to pay.
