Hundreds of millions of people switched off their lights on Saturday evening to show their commitment to environmental protection and call for more action on climate change. Started in 2007 by the World Wide Fund for Nature in Sydney, Australia, the event is held annually to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off nonessential electric lights for one hour on a designated day to symbolize a commitment to the planet. As Earth Hour ambassador, actress and singer Li Bingbing encouraged everyone to participate in the global event and to interact via the China Daily app.
