3 killed in Canyon helicopter crash

Three people were killed after a tour helicopter carrying seven people crashed in the Grand Canyon in Arizona on Saturday. The other four people were rescued from the wreckage and were being treated in hospital. Officials confirmed on Sunday night those killed were three Britons and it was providing support to their families and those of three more Britons who were injured. It is not clear what caused the crash.

Egypt

Tillerson begins trip in Cairo

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is meeting with his counterpart in the Egyptian capital as part of a weeklong trip to the Middle East. Monday's meeting with Sameh Shoukry in Cairo comes as Egypt is undertaking a major military operation in Sinai. From Egypt, Tillerson will travel on to Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, meeting officials there as well as Saudi, Emirati, Iraqi and Syrian delegations.

Army kills 12 militants in Sinai

Egyptian security forces killed 12 Islamist militants in gunbattles and arrested 92 suspects, while airstrikes destroyed dozens of militant targets in Sinai, the army said in a statement carried on state television on Monday. Based on army statements, around 28 militants have been killed since Friday in the latest offensive to crush insurgents blamed for a string of attacks.

Arrests after 229 migrants rescued

Authorities have rescued 229 migrants and arrested six suspected people smugglers in the northern state of Tamaulipas, authorities announced on Sunday. The Tamaulipas coordination group said that the migrants were found in six safe houses, waiting to cross into the US. They had paid $4,000 each to be taken by truck to Matamoros, according to a statement.

United Kingdom

Airport shut after WWII bomb found

London City Airport says all flights in and out have been canceled for Monday after an unexploded World War II-era bomb was found nearby in the River Thames. Police says it has evacuated an area within 214 meters of the bomb and officers are working with specialists from the Royal Navy to remove the device. Local officials are offering emergency accommodation to area residents.
