A Maldivian president's envoy has pledged protection for Chinese people and institutions in the South Asian country after a state of emergency was declared there earlier this week.
Maldivian Economic Development Minister Mohamed Saeed made the remarks on Thursday when meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Saeed briefed Wang on the current situation in the Maldives, saying that the Maldivian government was committed to upholding the rule of law and order to guarantee stability.
