Ex-senior official pleads guilty

Li Yunfeng, former vice-governor of Jiangsu province, pleaded guilty on Thursday to corruption in a court in Shandong province. The official confessed to having abused his power to help others win promotions. He also said he had helped others land project contracts in 2013 and 2014. The bribes he took himself or through his relatives surpassed 14.7 million yuan ($2.3 million), according to a statement by Heze people's procuratorate in Shandong. Li expressed remorse in his final statement in court after the prosecutor and his lawyer exchanged views. The court said a sentence will be announced at a later date.
