One night's work leads to 10 years in prison

China Daily | Updated: 2018-01-29 08:02

"I thought robbing a grave would be a good way to get rich quick," said a convict, who only gave his surname as Chen.

In July, he was one of a gang of 10 that raided a tomb at a site called the Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty in Hebei province, North China. The grave they robbed was built for Wenxi, a concubine of the Kangxi Emperor (1654-1722),

"When I was arrested and lost my freedom, I began to regret my actions. I realized I had committed a very serious crime that posed a major threat to our national heritage," he told a court in the province.
