Prizewinning scientist gets charged up about graphene
Zhu Yanwu, one of China's leading experts on the study of the 3-D carbon material graphene, received the APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education for his achievements, in Hanoi, Vietnam, in May.
When Zhu earned his doctorate from the University of Texas in Austin in 2011, the 33-year-old scientist decided to go back to his home country for further development and to pursue more in-depth research into graphene.
The rapid development of cutting-edge scientific research in China provided Zhu more options. He took up a position as professor at the University of Science and Technology of China's School of Chemistry and Materials Science in August 2011 and started his own laboratory to continue his graphene research, especially its 3-D carbon material properties.
