54 new TCM plant species discovered

Chinese researchers discovered 54 medicinal plant species that can be used in traditional Chinese medicine last year, according to a report by the State Administration of TCM. The 2017 annual survey of TCM resources showed there were 13,000 types of medicinal herbs in the wild and 736 cultivated herbs nationwide already recognized for TCM use. China started its fourth pilot program for the national survey of TCM resources in 2011, and it now covers 1,332 counties in 31 provincial regions.
