Society: Young volunteers revitalize deserted island

Zhoushan, China's largest archipelago city in Zhejiang province, boasts stunning landscapes and a temperate climate. Chen Mo, a professor in the School of Humanities at Zhejiang Ocean University, set up a pilot program in 2014 with her students in Matiaotou village on Xuanshan Island. The program focuses on ecological transformation where rocks, stones, pebbles and discarded everyday items, such as old tires, are used. The charity program has won several provincial awards.
