Olympics memorabilia stores open in capital
The first seven licensed franchise stores for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games opened last week in Beijing. More than 140 types of products are on sale, including clothes, badges, key chains and souvenir gold and silver bars, and each product has an anti-forgery label. Eight such stores will open later this month, including five in Beijing. Another store is expected to open in February in Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, the co-host city of the games. The official online store for the games opened last December.

Counterfeit campaign to root out fake goods
The city's administration for industry and commerce has launched a month-long campaign targeting the sources of counterfeiting. It will investigate the manufacture, distribution and sales of fake goods and trademark labels, with a particular focus on major supermarkets, e-commerce platforms and rural-urban fringe zones. The authority will publish the cases of companies involved in the illegal activity.

Biomedical engineering alliance launched
The Guangdong Intellectual Property Alliance for Biomedical Engineering was founded last week in Guangzhou. Its first 10 member organizations include hospitals, universities, research institutions, companies and industry associations. In Guangzhou Development District, there are more than 1,000 companies involved in the biomedicine and healthcare industries. Together, they generated total revenue of 52.3 billion yuan ($7.9 billion) in 2016, and the number is expected to rise to 100 billion yuan by 2020.

Sellers sentenced for infringing trademarks
Thirteen people were sentenced to jail for counterfeiting the trademark labels of imported fruit, according to a ruling by the court of Shanghai's Pudong New Area last week. The defendants, involved in six cases, were fruit package sellers at grocery markets. They made nearly 1.1 million counterfeit trademark labels of imported fruit in total. In one case, a group of three sold the labels not only at fruit wholesale markets, but also online. The court found the group had sold 14,000 labels with another 1,800 unsold.

Invention applications soar by 106.5% in 2017
Companies and individuals in Shaanxi province filed 46,607 applications for invention patents in 2017, increasing 106.5 percent on the previous year. The growth rate was the sharpest in the history of the province and topped the nation. At the same time, 8,774 invention patents were granted, up 16.9 percent. For every 10,000 residents in the province, there are 8.9 invention patents on average, ranking No 7 nationwide and the top in central and western China.

Platform ranked No 1 in nationwide assessment
The Fujian provincial online intellectual property education platform has ranked the top in a comprehensive assessment of such platforms nationwide. Built in 2012, it has so far organized nearly 300 online training sessions, involving more than 90,000 trainees in total. In 2017 alone, 101 programs with 38,000 trainees taking part were held on the platform. Its administrators said they will focus more on cooperation with other organizations in the future.
