Khamenei blames US, Israel for inciting recent unrests in Iran

TEHERAN - Iran has foiled attempts by its foreign enemies to turn legitimate protests into an insurgency to overthrow the Islamic Republic, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday.

Comments on his Twitter feed and in Iranian media underscored the establishment's confidence that it has extinguished the unrest which has left more than 20 people dead since late December.

Khamenei blamed foreign powers, including the United States and Israel, for inciting recent unrests in a number of Iranian cities, semiofficial ISNA news agency reported.
