By Hou Liqiang | China Daily | Updated: 2018-01-03 07:41

Zhang Guoqing, the former mayor of Chongqing, was appointed acting mayor of Tianjin on Tuesday, two days after transferring to the city to become its deputy Party chief.

The port city is one of the country's four municipalities - along with Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing - and has the same status as a province. The appointment was confirmed by the Standing Committee of the Tianjin People's Congress.

Zhang worked for 26 years in the weapons industry after graduating from a university in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
