Steady rise in strategic petroleum reserves
China had 37.73 million metric tons of crude oil in its Strategic Petroleum Reserves by the middle of 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Dec 29, 2017. By the middle of last year, the country had built nine national oil reserve bases to avoid foreign dependence, which are mainly located in coastal regions, including Zhoushan, Dalian, Qingdao and Tianjin. In its last update in April 2017, the NBS said the country had 33.25 million tons of oil reserve at the middle of 2016.
