By Zhu Lixin in Hefei | China Daily | Updated: 2017-12-25 07:46

More effective technology and equipment should be developed to monitor air pollution in China, according to experts in the field, and a new key laboratory is being built to make sure that happens.

"China has been lagging behind some developed countries in its ability to precisely monitor atmospheric pollution," said Liu Wenqing, director of the National Engineering Laboratory of Advanced Technology and Equipment for Atmospheric Pollution Monitoring. "All protection measures should be based on precise readings."

Liu, who is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, made the remarks at a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new laboratory on Sunday in Hefei, Anhui province.
