Review of documents checks propriety of local regulations

China Daily | Updated: 2017-12-25 07:44

China's top legislature received and put on record 889 normative documents for review this year, according to an official report. The majority of the documents were local laws and regulations, 358 of them at the provincial level and 444 at the municipal, as of early December.

Shen Chunyao, chairman of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, delivered a report on the initiative on Sunday at the bi-monthly session of the NPC Standing Committee, which runs until Wednesday.

"Reviewing normative documents, such as administrative and local laws and regulations, as well as judicial interpretations, is a significant duty of the committee, which has the power to nullify documents that contradict the Constitution and laws," he said.
