Chinese bring water to Nigerian community

China Daily | Updated: 2017-12-23 07:44

ABUJA - Fetching water from a free public tap adjacent to her house on Monday, Rita Okoye is relieved. In the past, she had to search all day for water.

Pregnant with her sixth child, Okoye has lived with family members for seven years in the rural community of Kwali - near Nigeria's capital, Abuja - enduring a chronic shortage of potable water.

The population of 85,837 had been served poorly by a public water supply system built 30 years ago and which has undergone several makeovers, most recently in 2012. It was abandoned after that.
