China is ready to work with Canada to further boost bilateral trade, two-way investment and cooperation regarding innovation capability, Vice-Premier Wang Yang told visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday.

They met on the sidelines of the Fortune Global Forum in southern China's Guangzhou. The Canadian leader is on a visit to China from Sunday to Thursday.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that Chinese leaders including President Xi Jinping have met with Trudeau in Beijing and reached a number of important consensus, which will inject new impetus to the development of bilateral relations.

"China is ready to work with Canada to implement the outcomes of the visit, and enrich the bilateral strategic partnership," Wang said.

Trudeau said his visit to China was fruitful and he expects both sides to strengthen cooperation on investment and innovation.

Also on Wednesday, Wang met Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill, who attended and addressed the forum.

As the southern Pacific country will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting next year, Wang said China supports Papua New Guinea's hosting efforts.
