Expert dismissed amid investigation

The Chinese Academy of Engineering removed Meng Wei, an expert in water pollution control, from its academician list on Tuesday. Meng, who was elected an academician of the academy in 2009, is under investigation for "serious discipline violations", according to a news release from the academy. Born in 1956, Meng is vice-chairman of the Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the National People's Congress and former head of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences.
