Taliban attacks claim 22 lives
Dozens of police and soldiers have been killed in a wave of Taliban attacks on checkpoints in Kandahar province, officials said on Tuesday, as insurgents step up assaults on the beleaguered security forces. Matiullah Helal, acting provincial police spokesman, said 22 police were killed and at least 15 others were wounded when insurgents stormed various security posts in two districts on Monday night.

Part of latest Trump travel ban approved
An appeals court in California on Monday let President Donald Trump's latest travel ban go partially into effect, ruling the government can bar entry of people from six Muslim-majority countries with no connections to the country. A three-judge panel of the San Francisco-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals partially granted a Trump administration request to block at least temporarily a judge's ruling that had put the new ban on hold. Trump's ban was announced on Sept 24 and replaced two previous versions that had been impeded by federal courts.

Woman burned alive by alleged stalker
A young woman in the state of Tamil Nadu was burned alive allegedly by her stalker, police said on Tuesday. The victim's mother and sister also suffered burn injuries while trying to save her. The incident took place on Monday in Chennai, capital city of the state. The deceased woman was identified as Induja and her mother and sister are undergoing treatment at hospital.
