Animation copyright fair set to kick off
The ninth China International Animation Copyright Fair is scheduled to start on Nov 9 in Dongguan. The three-day event will feature 180 booths in five areas, attracting companies from China and overseas.

Organizers said the fair's focuses will include animation copyright protection and trade, the virtual reality industry and creative design. There will also be matchmaking meetings for copyright owners, agencies and derivative manufacturers.

Patent applications No 1 in western China
Companies and individuals in Sichuan province own more than 451,000 valid trademarks, ranking No 1 in western China, according to statistics from the provincial administration for industry and commerce. The province saw 133,365 trademark applications this year by Sept 15, increasing 48 percent year-on-year. More than 65,262 trademarks were registered during the same period, up 29 percent. Registration offices have opened in five cities, which had received more than 8,000 applications by the end of September.

Regional regulations come into force
The Patent Regulation of Hebei came into force on Wednesday. Consisting of 56 articles in six chapters, the regulation aims to encourage innovation and invention, fight against infringement, promote patent commercialization, defend the rights of patent owners, and optimize patent management and services. It has specific rules on rewarding inventors, filing complaints against counterfeiters and regulating patent agencies' services.

Biomedicine projects signed at trade event
Eight contracts were signed at a matchmaking campaign for biomedicine intellectual property management at the seventh Guangxi Invention Exhibition and Trade Fair last week. The projects were worth a total of 133 million yuan ($20.3 million). Nearly 200 projects applied for the campaign and about 180 of them were promoted. International experts were invited to the event to give speeches on the latest developments in the field.

Counterfeit books, suspects are seized
The police of Fangshan district recently cracked down on a group that had sold pirated books online, involving a potential illegal value of more than 1 million yuan ($152,700). They raided the group's hideout in a local village, seized two suspects and found more than 29,000 pirated books, most of them education-related. The suspects said they had sold more than 2,000 books since July, gaining 30,000 yuan of illegal profit.

Domestically designed amphibian unveiled
CNGC's China North Vehicle Research Institute has developed a prototype high-speed amphibious vehicle capable of both military and civil use. The vehicle weighs 5.5 metric tons and has a maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour. It can be used to transport personnel between ships and beaches, as well as providing fire-fighting support. The development project started five years ago and the vehicle's main components are domestically designed.
