Ministries boost intangible heritage
The ministries of culture and education are working together to study and develop intangible cultural heritage items and train cultural inheritors - artists charged with the official responsibility of carrying forward the country's intangible cultural heritage. Nearly 80 universities have participated in the program and about 100,000 people will be involved in the training over the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period. The Ministry of Culture is also cooperating with local governments to promote the application of traditional arts and skills in modern life.

New body explores dispute alternatives
A mediation committee for intellectual property disputes was founded in Changsha last week, offering a quick and flexible alternative to solve patent, trademark and copyright disputes in the province. The first 20 mediators in the committee come from IP-related government departments, IP agencies and universities. Officials and experts said mediation offered higher efficiency and lower costs compared with filing lawsuits. They added the committee was a new attempt at more diverse solutions for IP disputes.

Zijin intl summit is scheduled for opening
The Zijin International IP Summit 2017 is scheduled to open on Nov 9 in Nanjing, according to a news conference on Tuesday. The theme for the two-day event is "IP and innovative development" and will focus on the IP services industry. Officials from governments and organizations, scholars and representatives from companies will be invited to exchange ideas about how IP will promote innovative economic and social development.

Group of specialists gathered for region
A first group of nearly 100 intellectual property specialists has been registered in a talent pool for the autonomous region, to support local innovation-driven development and IP strategy. They come from government authorities, judicial institutions, universities, research organizations, companies and IP service agencies. The specialists will attend lectures, seminars, training and exchange programs each year.

Agreement signed for new protection center
The People's Procuratorate of Pudong New Area and the area's intellectual property office have signed an agreement to build an IP protection center together. With the aim of building a convenient international business environment that is ruled by law, they will improve the coordinated IP protection mechanism by integrating administrative and judicial enforcement and attempt to diverse IP dispute solutions.

Seminar reviews key topics, innovations
An intellectual property seminar for the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao was recently held in Hong Kong. About 300 delegates took part in the seminar, with topics including the latest IP developments, challenges for universities to commercialize their research achievements and corporate innovation strategies. He Zhimin, deputy commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, said the mainland will continue supporting Hong Kong and Macao's IP development to improve their business environment.
